Deadline to meet requirements

Officials estimate that there are 180,00 rental properties that will require retrofitting of insulation. Given this number of rental properties and the capacity of the industry to install insulation in this number of homes, it is important that landlords and property managers start planning to carry out this work sooner rather than later to avoid escalating costs and a possible shortage of qualified trades people available to carry out this work by the July 2019 deadline.

Since the RTA was amended in early 2016 the industry has seen a reluctance from rental property owners to bring their properties up to standard now. Many appear to be holding off on doing the work until closer to the deadline. We urge property owners to arrange a free assessment of their properties now so that they understand what work is required, and they can put in place a time frame for doing the work that will avoid the inevitable rush in the final 6-12 months.
