Today the Reserve Bank publishes new statistics (table C31) on new mortgage lending broken down by borrower type. The data is available starting from the August 2014 month.
New mortgage lending includes borrowing for purchasing houses, loan top-ups to existing home owners, switching of mortgages between banks and small businesses borrowing on their mortgage.
